TheEnergy Engineering and Technologies Graduate Certificate provides access to the world-class research of Stanford's chemical engineering faculty and exposure to the latest technologies driving new and sustainable energy sources. Thomas Jaramillo, assistant professor of chemical engineering and recipient of the 2011 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), highlights the curriculum's future-focused approach: "New energy technologies are having a major impact on society and industry. This program brings professionals up to speed with state-of-the-art technical advancements in the energy sector, along with the science and engineering foundations needed to develop the next generation of technologies."
Offered entirely online, lectures, course materials and exams can be accessed from anywhere in the world. The program brings all the advantages of earning a Stanford credential to qualifying students who may never set foot on the Silicon Valley campus, either because of location or schedule. Jaramillo says, "It's a way for us to help organizations within the energy landscape educate their engineers. The solution to the world's energy problem has to come from many sources, not just one. We want to provide a level of flexibility and convenience so that engineers can address the challenges and entrepreneurial opportunities ahead."
