2015 Staff Survey

The university-wide staff survey gathers feedback and measures engagement in a consistent way

To continuously improve and enhance your Cardinal at Work experience, a university-wide staff engagement survey was conducted Oct. 12-30, 2015. The overall response rate reached 61 percent.

Background

Implemented by University Human Resources, an overarching goal of the staff survey was to identify opportunities to strengthen the employee experience by evaluating key themes from institutional alignment and openness to performance management and career development.

"Our 12,000 staff are vital members of the Stanford community and directly contribute to the university’s excellence. The survey is a way to gather feedback about their experiences of Stanford as a workplace, and the results will help us identify priorities in the coming years." —President John Hennessy

While several schools and units conduct their own surveys to gather employee input, the 2015 Staff Survey was the first university-wide survey to be conducted in recent years. The 2015 Staff Survey results will be used to:

  • Measure overall staff engagement
  • Surface workforce priorities and inform strategic planning
  • Help identify specific actions to strengthen the employee experience in the coming years
  • Help identify employment-related programs, services and plans needed for Stanford's valued workforce

To ensure confidentiality, the survey was administered by CEB's Workforce Surveys & Analytics, an independent research organization.
