Upon request, the Office of the University Registrar can provide a notarized transcript, degree certificate, or diploma. Notaries are limited up to 2 documents; there is currently no fee. Allow 2 - 3 weeks for processing. To request certification of your Stanford University document, submit the applicable item(s) listed below to:

For a notarized transcript, degree certification, or diploma, submit:
Clean copy of your original diploma (if requesting notarized diploma). The Office of the University Registrar does not keep copies of diplomas.
Alumni who do not have a copy of the diploma should request a new diploma by filling out and attaching the Replacement Diploma Request (pdf) form.
Recommended: A pre-addressed, postage paid express mail envelope. Otherwise, all requests are returned via USPS 1st Class, a non-trackable mailing service.
Certain governments or institutions require that an apostille be affixed to a notarized document. Stanford University does not provide or issue apostille.

The California Secretary of State has an authentications web site , that can further explain their process for obtaining an apostille with your notarized Stanford University documents, and related costs they charge.
Because this can be difficult to achieve remotely (i.e., from out-of-state or country), some people hire private agencies or have a stateside contact to carry out step 2 above. The University is unable to maintain a list of these agencies.
