Leading-edge technology
In addition, the Stanford Cancer Center rapidly invests in new technologies that have been shown to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment, ensuring that our patients have access to the best care possible.
For example, our all digital mammography service enables CAD analysis of mammograms which has been proven to increase diagnostic accuracy, and our PET/CT scanners allow doctors to simultaneously view anatomical and biological tumor information, providing a greater ability to pinpoint a cancer's location than ever before.
Our expertise
Patients receiving care in the Stanford Cancer Center have access to the full complement of our specialists, many of whom are nationally recognized experts in their field. The Stanford Cancer Center has a total of 13 different multispecialty tumor boards, each specializing in a different type of cancer. Genetic testing and counseling are also an integral part of our treatment approach.
Tumor boards
Tumor boards are meetings where specialists from surgery, medical
oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, genetics, and pathology
collaboratively review a patient’s condition and determine the best
treatment plan. Through this multidisciplinary approach, patients have
access to a diverse team of Stanford cancer experts instead of relying
on a single opinion.
At the weekly Tumor Board meetings, the brain tumor physicians come together to discuss the diagnosis and treatment for their most complex cases. They share their insights and expertise in this interdisciplinary setting to ensure that the most appropriate, research driven diagnosis and treatment decisions are made for each of their patients.

Genetics of a Tumor
