At Stanford University, we view learning as a rich, evolving process and teaching as a vibrant, ever-improving intellectual endeavor.
Stanford’s support for teaching and learning is similarly dynamic. The Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning is chartered with supporting, invigorating, and expanding the university’s learning community across its full range and depth.
VPTL collaborates with individual faculty and departments in all seven of Stanford’s schools to accelerate advances in teaching and learning comprehensively—from classroom practice to classroom technology adoption, from course design to curriculum transformation, and from digital learning initiatives to research-driven learning innovation. We seed inquiry, support communities of practice, and provide student and instructor services to elevate learning and teaching. We develop and evolve physical and digital learning spaces—from classrooms to laboratories to online platforms. We advise on pedagogically advantageous uses of tools and technologies. We provide a holistic, sustainable approach to help faculty develop new modes of learning and new learning content. We partner with schools as they reimagine and expand their program offerings in core disciplines to learners on and off campus. Our strategic programs and collaboration opportunities are organized into three categories: Innovation Initiatives, Teaching Practices, and Learning Spaces.
