Department bears responsibility for facilitating legal immigration and enforcing laws. Supports legal employment by offering information and expanding E-Verify program.

Department provides the coordinated responses to terrorist attacks, natural disasters or other large emergencies while working with public and private sector partners.

Department works with industry and state, local, tribal and territorial governments to secure critical infrastructure and information systems. Analyzes and reduces threats and distributes warnings.

Our mission is to secure our borders. We are using technology, manpower and physical infrastructure to improve operational control of our borders.
Strengthen the Security Enterprise
Department of Homeland Security was formed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as part of a national effort to safeguard the United States against terrorism.
