Air and Radiation

Asthma Campaign 
Asthma is a serious, sometimes life-threatening respiratory disease that affects the quality of life for millions of Americans. EPA has available a series of television, radio, and print media PSAs educating people about management of environmental asthma triggers. The PSA’s are available in English and Spanish. There are also two PSAs to let tribal members know that there is information available about actions they can take environmental to control asthma triggers. Those are available in Navajo, Lakota, and Anishineaabe.

Burn Wise Campaign

Burn Wise is an educational campaign that encourages people who heat their home with wood to burn only dry, seasoned firewood or wood pellets and includes messages about cost savings, improved safety and health benefits. To help raise awareness, EPA has several PSAs that show how to maximize energy efficiency, burn less wood, reduce smoke and pollute less.

The Energy Star "Change a Light, Change the World" is a national call-to-action to encourage individuals and organizations to help save energy and protect the environment through energy-efficient lighting.

Fuel Economy and Environment Label Campaign
EPA and the National Highway Safety Administration unveiled the most dramatic overhaul to fuel economy labels since the labels were introduced 35 years ago. As the new labels appear in showrooms and online, shoppers will find more information at their fingertips than ever before. The redesigned label will provide the public with new information on vehicle fuel economy, energy use, fuel costs, and environmental impacts. In addition to the label being shown on every model year 2013 vehicle and beyond, these PSAs are available in print and audio/video formats.

Radon Campaign

The U.S. Surgeon General notes that almost 21,000 Americans die of radon-related lung cancer each year. EPA has available a series of television, radio, and print PSAs educating people about reducing radon exposure. Web-banners and ring tones for some of the PSAs are available. The PSAs are available in English and Spanish.

SmartWay's Freight Transportation Campaign
SmartWay encourages consumers to look for the EPA-certified SmartWay Certification mark on cars and trucks to identify the cleanest and most fuel efficient vehicles available. These PSAs are available in print and audio/video formats. SmartWay is a public and private collaboration between EPA and the freight transportation industry helping freight shippers, carriers, and logistics companies improve fuel-efficiency and save money.

Cockroaches and other pests

To keep pests out of the home, you must eliminate their availability to food, water, warmth and shelter. The presence of cockroaches in the home can trigger asthma attacks, which disproportionately affects Hispanic children. This PSA outlines precautions that help protect homes from cockroach infestations.  (más en español)

Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Campaign
EPA created informational public service announcement (PSA) radio ads, entitled "Dreams," to encourage parents to hire lead-safe certified renovators. Audio files and transcripts are available in both English and Spanish, in 15-second, 30-second and 60-second versions.

Pesticides


Pesticide Safety
These PSAs and outreach materials include: properly storing pesticides to keep away from children (locked up and out of reach); Latin celebrity Willie Colón discussing illegal pesticides, safety for farmworker families on how to reduce pesticide residue in the home, information for Mixteco speaking farmworkers on protecting themselves from pesticide poisoning by reducing their exposure to pesticides; and information on total release foggers (also known as "bug bombs").

Drinking Water
This series of radio and print ads were developed to encourage consumers to take advantage of consumer confidence reports and other information about their drinking water. The ads are available as print ads in a number of sizes and shapes, as 16" x 20" posters, or as 30 second radio ads. Also available in Spanish.
Safe Water PSAs

Nutrient Pollution
Nutrient pollution, which occurs from an excess of nitrogen and phosphorus in the environment, is a growing problem. This pollution impacts people's health, our environment, opportunities for recreation, and tourism. One video aims to build public awareness which is the first step in preventing and reducing nutrient pollution. The other video illustrates what can happen during a harmful algal bloom (HAB). The reenactment was designed to help raise awareness about the problem of nutrient pollution and its potential impacts on human health and the aquatic environment.

Natural Disasters
Extreme natural events such as hurricanes, floods, or blizzards can directly and indirectly harm people and the environment. In addition, individuals' or communities' response to natural disasters can cause further harm. The PSAs cover a number of health and safety topics such as flood water, mold, gas leaks, asbestos and lead, hazardous materials, and more.
