What is really striking -- aside from the audacity in carrying out (not just conceiving, but carrying out) such a project -- is that the colors are still there, and discernible today

This is rather unsurprising
A Gallup survey of 30,000 college graduates of all ages found that highly selective schools don't produce better workers or happier people, but really inspiring professors—no matter where they teach—just might.

Interesting piece -- whose implications are well worth working out in more depth and detail.

Not sure I buy: "journalism is not really serving two masters, the ethics of journalists on the one hand and the craft of storytelling on the other. No, journalism serves but one master—its audience."  I suspect journalism serves yet more "masters than those," for one. . .  and I certainly don't buy that the audience-opinion former relationship is that one-sided in who shapes whom
Our relationship with news stories is unhealthy and unethical.

One of the first classes in the new Oplerno paradigm/platform (instructors get full latitude to design ideal courses, own the content they develop, and the tuition provides an actual living wage) is enrolling and set to go.

I'm very excited to be part of this myself! -- putting final touches on my own first course with them (Introduction to Existentialism) this weekend

The Psychology of Happiness which starts on Monday

This will be a course delving into the genuinely scientific study of the key aspects of the behavioral components of happiness. That is, the things that make us happy as well as what creates unhappiness. Using existing research and other information the goal would be to substantially clarify what we can do to more deeply understand the emotion of happiness and our responses to it, whether that response is to the positive or negative sides of it. A textbook will be used and specific activities would be assigned.

You still have time to enroll…

I'm not all that happy with how cursory these chapters covering other religions are in the textbooks -- but, given the constraints of the 15 week semester, and a lot of material to cover, whatayagonnado?  Really, Religion in America would be a good year-long course.

+Gregory B. Sadler http://www.muslimphilosophy.com/hmp/ Here is a pdf copy of a fantastic book on Islamic Philosophy I got in Pakistan way back in 2005. Covers loads of Philosophic/Theological Disciplines e.g. Mu'tazilites Ash'arites etc. I'm sure you probably know plenty on the subject already, but it's a great source in any case!

And then, the Revenge of the Fifth rendered all arguments ever invalid.
