Jamie Gilt, 31, was driving with her four-year-old son through Putnam County, Florida when the child picked up a loaded .45 handgun from the back seat and fired wounding his mother. Gilt's mother, Jane Bramble, 71, tearfully admitted it will be 'a long road to recovery' for her daughter. 'People are trying to make it into something it's not, we are not criminals, we are the victims here.' She said the Sheriff hasn't spoken to her as far as she knows. Just 24 hours before the accident, Gilt posted about her toddler's shooting ability. She wrote: ''Even my 4 year old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22.'

A capital murder suspect who escaped from a Mississippi jail has been shot dead by one of his hostages, reports claim.  Rafael McCloud, 33, escaped from the Warren County jail in Vicksburg last Wednesday. A week later, he took a family hostage, breaking into their home at 4.30am on Thursday.

A Donald Trump supporter arrested for punched a black protester in the face has said he 'might have to kill' the demonstrator if he sees him again. John McGraw, 78, was caught on camera hitting Rakeem Jones, 26, as the protester was escorted out of a Trump rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Wednesday. Before he was arrested, McGraw told Inside Edition that he assaulted Jones because 'we don't know if he's ISIS'. The Trump fan was arrested today and charged with battery and disorderly conduct, WRAL reported. But yesterday, as he left the Cabarrus Arena, McGraw was asked why he attacked Jones.
'Well, number one, we don't know if he's ISIS.'

Donald Trump's former butler of 16 years opened up about his boss in a bizarre interview on Thursday that at times played like a campaign ad for the Republican front-runner. Tony Senecal had nothing but effusive praise for Trump, who he called 'incredibly generous' and 'just a nice guy' while speaking with CNN host Carol Costello. Trump was also described as a 'patriot,' 'very patriotic person' and heralded for his 'patriotism' by Senecal. The former butler then took some time to explain why Trump has such an interest in Americans and will always want what is best for this country, saying that it all boils down to one thing - the fact that he was born on Flag Day.

Alexa Palmer claims that Trump Model Management brought her from Jamaica on a promise of $75,000 a year and filled in immigration papers with the figure, but paid her a fraction of it. Palmer (on the catwalk, left, and today, right) was 17 when she gained a U,S. visa in 2011. She was tied to Trump's firm but says she earned less than $5,000 in three years, and her lawyer describes the process as being in violation of immigration law on the use of the H-1B visa scheme. A monstrous-looking sea creature that experts are unable to identify has washed up on a tourist beach in Mexico. The strange 4-meter (13-foot-long) beast was found by beach-goers on Bonfil Beach, in the city of Acapulco, in the south-west Mexican state of Guerrero.

The Miami Dolphins cut Brent Grimes (right) on Monday after three seasons with the team. The cornerback had an solid run with the Dolphins, putting up strong numbers his first two seasons and pulling off the impressive feat of being selected to the Pro Bowl all three years he was in Miami. Grimes will turn 33 in July though and was set to make as much as $8million next year, so the Dolphins decision to cut an aging and possibly overpaid player made sense to fans, especially after the team acquired Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Byron Maxwell on Wednesday. Those were not, however, the only major reasons the team decided to cut Grimes as they also wanted to get rid of the person closest to the football player - his wife Miko (left in December). Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero reported that many in the Dolphins organization had grown sick of Miko's Twitter attacks of the team and her husband's teammates (inset bottom left). And the Dolphins are not alone in their distaste for Miko and her social media ways, with three NFL general managers saying on Thursday they would not sign Grimes because of her behavior.

A close friend of the Queen (left) says she was a loving parent despite claims made by Prince Charles (right) that it was his nursery staff, not his 'emotionally reserved' parents that raised him. In his authorised biography, the Prince of Wales claimed it was them, and not his mother and father, who 'taught him to play, witnessed his first steps, punished and rewarded him, helped him put his first thoughts into words'. But her cousin Margaret Rhodes has said it is impossible to overstate how important the family is to her. Maurice Richards (pictured left and center), 11, from St. Louis, Missouri died in the hospital on Wednesday after being rammed by a hit-and-run driver as he crossed the street and drivers simply ignored him. His family is greatly mourning his death and cannot fathom why so many motorists drove by him before one finally called 911.

Andrew and Hilery Maison (pictured left, during their sentencing), of Port Huron, were sentenced to life in prison without parole in St. Clair County Circuit Court on Thursday, the Times Herald of Port Huron reported. They were convicted in January of first-degree murder, child abuse and torture. Hilery Maison called 911 on May 26 last year, and responding emergency personnel found her stepdaughter, Mackenzie (right), unresponsive at their Port Huron home, 60 miles northeast of Detroit. Mackenzie was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

West Virginia lawmakers were stricken with an intestinal virus after they celebrated a new law allowing people to drink raw milk with a glass of the while stuff, an anonymous complaint to the state Bureau of Public Health claimed. After Governor Ray Tomblin signed a new bill into law allowing Virginians to drink unpasteurized milk, Scott Cadle (R-Mason) invited his colleagues to drink some samples.  But shortly afterward, some of those people - including Cadle himself - came down with a stomach bug, the Charleston-Gazette-Mail reported. And now the Bureau of Public Health is investigating.

Video captured on surveillance cameras from a nearby business appear to show a white car (pictured) traveling at a high rate of speed running a red light and slamming into an SUV waiting at the intersection. It then slams into an SUV waiting at the intersection, located at Vanowen Street and Sepulveda Boulevard, right in the middle of Hollywood. At least five cars were involved in the crash and at least six people needed to be taken to hospital.

NEW An intellectually challenged man who spent 25 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit was exuberant Thursday as a Brooklyn court overturned his conviction and declared him a free man. 'I told y'all I didn't do this,' Andre Hatchett said inside Brooklyn Supreme Court after his wrongful conviction for a 1991 murder was thrown out. 'I'm so happy to be free again. I lost my son, my mom and my dad while in here. I'm home again,' Hatchett said, according to the New York Daily News . Hatchett's lawyers said they'd found the murder case was tainted with a dubious star witness, prosecutorial mistakes that denied Hatchett key information and defense lawyers who failed him at not one but two trials. 'Because I knew I didn't do it, I knew I was going to be home one day,' a cheerful Hatchett, 49, said as he left court, pausing to hug relatives and hoist two grandchildren into his arms.

Leigh Munn was fishing with friends 20km off of Port Victoria in South Australia when all of a sudden a massive five metre Great White swam up next to his boat (stock photo). Two dolphins and a couple of Hammerhead sharks were hanging around the boat for about 20 minutes before they suddenly left and Mr Munn noticed the Great White circling them, he told Shark Alerts South Australia.

A news team from KYTX was filming the damage of a tornado that swept through Malakoff, Texas, when they spotted a dog casually sitting on a lawnmower with its paw on the wheel. The news team is heard explaining the damage when a woman off camera excitedly says 'Oh my god!'. The camera then pans to the lawnmower, and the dog seems unfazed. Storms on Tuesday in Malakoff knocked down power lines and destroyed cars, homes and other buildings.

Photographs unearthed by AL.com on Monday show a grizzly sight: men grappling with a fully-grown bear in an Alabama bar while spectators look on.  The images are shocking enough as it is - but even more so when you realize they were taken just twenty years ago, when the 'sport' was legal. The images show 'Terrible Ted,' a large bear, battling a succession of men in the center of The Ponderosa Club in New Hope, Alabama, in 1996. Ted's owner can be seen in the background of some of the images holding the bear back with a chain.

Musician Grimes, 27, has revealed that she started shaving her legs this year because people 'get mad' with her when she does it. The Canadian star, who has been photographed proudly showing her underarm and leg hair. said she is 'rebelling' by removing it. She said people should stop trying to 'police' her body - branding it 'bizarre'

Stunning photos have emerged of a greedy cannibal green tree frog devouring one of its own. Callan Snow, 23, stumbled upon the gruesome scene while walking through his cane-toad infested backyard in Lismore, north-eastern NSW. Concerned that the green tree frog had bitten off more than it could chew, Mr Snow took the lifeless ornate burrowing frog from the clutches of its predator and threw it into the bush.

In an amusing video captured by workers in the far eastern area of Chukotka, the three bears are seen rifling through the red square-shaped bin (top left and right) before they are chased off the site by a lorry. Unfortunately for the adorable cubs they leave the scene with empty paws and stomachs after an unsuccessful rummage (bottom left and right). Speaking to the Telegraph , the worker who captured the bears in action said: 'The Chukchi Sea polar bear sub-population is faring relatively well, but sea ice decline is expected to force the bears to spend more time on land each summer. As a result, they come into closer contact with humans.'
