Paul Beaudry and Pathways

Bassist Paul Beaudry and the other members of Pathways have far-flung origins. But their shared dedication to music and their common experience learning from being on the road with the greatest jazz artists has given them a unified artistic approach that is readily identifiable in their music. They’ve undergone a true transformation, however, as a result of their participation in two State Department-sponsored tours. Involving a half-dozen other bands in a larger project called Rhythm Road and co-sponsored with Jazz at Lincoln Center, their tours took them to the Caribbean, South America, Central Asia, and South Asia — but not to the swanky resorts with jazz bars. Pathways played in places that had never heard jazz, and the band members interacted with music lovers to learn the local music. As a result, their music has absorbed as much as the band had put out, and their sound is now a true hybrid. Combining original compositions with their own arrangements and adaptations of the music they brought back from the Rhythm Road, this program promises to be unforgettable.
