Allyson Hobbs is an assistant professor in the Department of History. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1997 and she received a PhD with distinction from the University of Chicago in 2009. Allyson is currently a fellow at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford. Allyson teaches courses on African American history, African American womenâ??s history and twentieth century American history. Currently, she is at work on a book manuscript that examines the phenomenon of racial passing in the United States from the late eighteenth century to the present. Allysonâ??s book is tentatively titled When Black Becomes White: A History of Racial Passing in American Life and it is under contract with Harvard University Press. She recently appeared on C-Span to give a lecture on the Great Migration as part of the â??Lectures in Historyâ?? series on American History TV. Currently teaching
