Personal bio
James Holland Jones is a biological anthropologist with graduate training in primate behavior and ecology. He has a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Harvard University, where he worked on questions of great ape ecology and conservation. Changing gears somewhat after graduate school, he took up a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle in the Center for AIDS and STD, the Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology and the Center for Statistics in the Social Sciences. His work now focuses on the human ecology of infectious disease, biodemography, and life history theory. He maintains current field projects in Tanzania and Uganda, investigating the ecology and epidemiology of primate retroviruses and the demography of Hadza hunter-gatherers. He also collaborates with several interdisciplinary groups seeking to improve rural health and livelihoods while conserving great ape populations. Jamie has been at Stanford since 2003. He is currently an associate professor of Anthropology and a senior fellow in the Woods Institute for the Environment. He is also the RF for Arroyo House.
