Personal bio
Leif Thomas received his Bachelors degree in Physics from University of California Santa Barbara in 1997 and his Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the University of Washington in 2003. Before joining the Stanford faculty in 2008, Leif held a joint appointment at the Applied Physics Laboratory and the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington (2004-2005) as a Research Associate, and in 2005 joined the Department of Physical Oceanography of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts as an Assistant Scientist. A native of California, Leif has been an avid bodyboarder since childhood and has a passion for all things Physics and for the ocean.
