Personal bio
Matthew L. Jockers is Lecturer and Academic Technology Specialist in the Department of English at Stanford. His research involves computer-based approaches to the study of large collections of literature. This methodology, which he calls â??macroanalysisâ?? borrows techniques from text-mining, corpus linguistics and natural language processing to explore macro-scale literary historical questions. Jockers is the founder and Co-Director, with Franco Moretti, of the Stanford Literary Lab ( http://litlab.stanford.edu/). His published work includes essays on computational authorship attribution as well as papers on Irish and Irish-American literature. His book Macroanalysis: Methods for Digital Literary History is currently under contract at the University of Illinois Press. Jockers teaches introductory and advanced courses in humanities computing and holds the distinction of being the first English Professor to assign more than 1200 novels in one class (see http://chronicle.com/article/The-Humanities-Go-Google/65713/). Jockers blogs about his research at http://www.stanford.edu/~mjockers. He can be found on twitter via @mljockers and contacted via email at mjockers@stanford.edu
