Personal bio
Nicole Ardoin holds a joint appointment with the School of Education and Woods Institute for the Environment. Nicole's research focuses on human/nature interactions, with an emphasis on the use of education as an opportunity to engage people of all ages in living more sustainably within the context of their local environment at a range of scales. She examines environmental issues and behaviors through a social science lens, most often using theories informed by sociological and anthropological perspectives. Nicole has active research studies examining the use of nature-based tourism as a motivator for environmental behavior; informal institutions as hubs of environmental learning in the Bay Area; and the links among sense of place and place-protective behavior. Nicole received her Ph.D. in Social Ecology from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. Nicole joined the Stanford faculty in 2008.
