Viewing: MUSIC 40, section 01

Term: 1162 - Fall 2015
Instructor: Rodin

Learning Goals

1. Students will gain a foundation of eight centuries of Western music.
2. Students will build a repertoire of representative pieces from each period through regular listening.
3. Students will learn to work with primary sources (medieval and Renaissance manuscripts and writings about music by some of the most important thinkers of each era).
4. Students will learn to think like historians by engaging historiographical questions. Through readings in the discipline of musicology, students will complicate and critique the narrative presented in the textbook by examining the relationship between the surviving evidence and the stories we tell about it.
