Learning Goals

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the ethics of community interpreting including: differential power relationships between service providers and their clients and the challenges of mediation and advocacy.
Students will learn how to transfer intended meanings orally between Spanish and English speaking monolingual individuals .
Students will execute interpreted sessions attending to confidenality, accuracy, potential cultural miscommunication, and communication management.
Students will become increasingly skilled in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting and in sight translation.
Students will increase in their ability to self monitor and self-assess their own performance.
Students will become conscious of their need to attend to their continuing language development.
