A Bold Experiment Pays Off: The Clark Center at 10 Years

Can a building, by virtue of its design and location, really help cultivate scientific breakthroughs?

Fall 2013

October 2013 marked the 10th anniversary of the pioneering James H. Clark Center for Biomedical Engineering and Sciences, home to Stanford Bio-X, a hub for interdisciplinary life sciences innovation. Designed to promote collaboration among faculty in the sciences, engineering, and medicine, the Clark Center houses 45 laboratories and hundreds of researchers spanning dozens of fields. The building was made possible by a lead gift from former Stanford professor and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jim Clark, and by significant support from The Atlantic Philanthropies and other generous donors.
