    Fall 2015 Highlights in Giving


    HONORING A FATHER: Robin and David Hanna, '67, pledged $2 million to endow the Prof. Stanley S. Hanna Visiting Professorship in the physics department at the School of Humanities and Sciences. The fund is being established in memory of David's father (pictured here in 1973), a leader in the field of experimental nuclear physics, who taught at Stanford from 1963 until he retired in 1991 and was honored with multiple visiting professorships around the world during that time. Other members of the family are contributing to the fund, including Professor Hanna's grandchildren.

    Fall 2015 Highlights in Giving


    THE KINDNESS OF BROTHERS: Jeannine Abusharkh (left) was a student at the University of San Francisco in 2013 when she learned she needed a kidney transplant. Her older brother Kase (right) stepped up to donate one of his—but his giving didn't stop there. He and their other brother, Jacob, created the Kase, Jeannine, and Jacob Abusharkh Fund at Stanford Medicine, which will support future research on kidney transplantation. When Jacob got married last fall, he encouraged guests to donate to the fund or to another charity in lieu of gifts.

    Fall 2015 Highlights in Giving


    UPHOLDING THE CONSTITUTION: In honor of his reunion, Derek Shaffer, JD '00, made a pledge to benefit the Stanford Constitutional Law Center, which is committed to the rule of law and the idea that the U.S. Constitution can be studied and interpreted objectively. His gift will support research, lectures, and other activities. Shaffer served as the first executive director of the center; he is now a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urghart & Sullivan, LLP, in Washington, D.C.

    Fall 2015 Highlights in Giving


    UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN BRAIN: Lisa and Mark Walsh (Parents '16) pledged $2 million to establish a research fund through the Stanford Neurosciences Institute, a new campus-wide interdisciplinary initiative for brain research. The Lisa and Mark Walsh Fund for Big Ideas in Neuroscience will support collaborations in NeuroHealth, NeuroEngineering, and NeuroDiscovery to transform our knowledge and treatment of the brain in health and disease.
