STANFORD, Calif. – Haley Snyder and the Stanford defense blanked No. 17 Arizona over the final four innings of Saturday's softball matchup at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium, but the Wildcats' six-run advantage through the first three frames proved too much for the Cardinal to overcome. The penultimate matchup of the three-game Pac-12 Conference series ended in favor of the Wildcats, 6-1.

Snyder (7-9) retired 13 of final 14 batters faced while scattering six hits in the complete-game effort.

The Cardinal (13-22 overall, 0-11 Pac-12) managed four hits on Arizona (30-12, 7-4), but Taylor McQuillin twirled a four-hitter to go along with nine punchouts to improve her ledger to 11-5 on the season and clinch the series for the Wildcats.

Arizona found paydirt first and never looked back when Mandie Perez took the second pitch she saw from Snyder deep to right for a leadoff homer, giving the visitors an early 1-0 cushion.

Perez, who matched Joelle Krist with a team-high two hits, singled in the third and later scored from 60 feet away on Tamara Statman's infield dribbler. Alexis Dotson brought home two more with a two-out double to left, and Krist let loose with a two-run dinger to left to put the Wildcats ahead, 6-0.

Kayla Bonstrom stroked an RBI-double to right-center to pull the Cardinal to within 6-1 in the fifth stanza.

Kylie Sorenson, Bessie Noll and Molly Fowkes added base knocks for the Cardinal.

Stanford left eight ducks on the pond, including three in the bottom of the seventh when McQuillin worked out of jam by fanning Jessica Plaza to close the book.

The series finale is slated for 4 p.m. PT Sunday and will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
