Bio

Under the supervision of Dr. Marcella Alsan, Mario Javier Carrillo “Javi” is working on various Global and Historical Public Health research projects that aim to identify how policies/program(s) have shaped the health seeking behavior of individuals, the formation of human capital, and economic outcomes.

Javi received his Master degree in International and Development Economics from the University of San Francisco where he researched the impacts of the Compassion International child sponsorship program on the quality of life and social behavior of sponsored children. While pursuing his Master’s degree, Javi concentrated his studies in econometrics and experimental economics. He also worked as a research assistant and teaching assistant in the Department of Economics.

His relevant experience includes qualitative/quantitative data collection, creation of datasets, STATA programming, econometric analysis of panel and cross-sectional data, and international research fieldwork in Indonesia, Ecuador, Uganda, and Jamaica.
