Annual Water Quality Reports

Annual Reports are published by July 1st of the following year. The 2014 report contains data from January 2014 through December 2014. It is our most current drinking water data. Please contact Julia Nussbaum at JuliaNN@stanford.edu for more information.

Stanford University receives its domestic water supply from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) which serves 2.5 million consumers around the Bay Area.

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission - Sources and Supply

The SFPUC fluoridates the water and collects daily samples to monitor fluoride concentrations. Fluoride is added to reach the optimum levels, as determined and regulated by the Center of Disease Control and California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) - Division of Drinking Water.

Stanford staff also collect water samples routinely from various locations within the system. These samples are analyzed for total coliform bacteria, total chlorine residual, and general physical parameters. Additional samples are collected throughout the year. In compliance with SWRCB requirements, a certified laboratory analyzes the samples and Stanford submits monthly monitoring reports to SWRCB to verify compliance.

Stanford Utilities staff also maintain flushing, cross-connection, and backflow prevention programs for the campus distribution system.

In addition to Stanford's water monitoring program, SFPUC collects daily water samples from various locations within their system. The SFPUC samples are analyzed for primary standards that apply to the protection of public health and secondary standards that refer to the aesthetic qualities of the drinking water supply, such as taste and odor.
