  • Any reasonable parent would be ashamed of Will Smith's kids

We don’t know for sure that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are the most horrible parents on Earth. But the case for that seems strong when you consider their überentitled, brainless, self-adoring, twaddle-spewing little munchkins. These kids are to childhood what the script of “After Earth” was to writing. Spoiled? Too mild. These kids are nuclear narcissists. The elder Smiths may have boycotted the Oscars because they weren’t nominated, but they boycotted parenting because they couldn’t be bothered to raise kids with any grounding in reality. Naming their children after themselves via gender-reversal — the boy, Jaden, is 17, while his sister, Willow, is 15 — turned out to be merely the first sign

  • Michelle Obama wears Jason Wu gown for Canada State Dinner

First lady Michelle Obama is embracing spring with the strapless floral gown she wore to Thursday's White House dinner for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The deep blue dress by Jason Wu, who also designed the first lady's inaugural gowns, featured a playful flower pattern and asymmetrical draping. Mrs. Obama wore her hair in full, loose waves, with long bangs swept to one side. Trudeau's wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, also went floral in a bright purple dress with coral flower trim by Canadian designer Lucian Matis. The two women also sported springtime looks earlier Thursday for a welcome ceremony at the White House. Obama chose a sleeveless, green and black frock by Toronto-born Tanya

  • Aiming to drive down gun deaths? Put these three laws on the books, researchers say

If three steps could reliably prevent 9 in 10 of the deaths caused each year by the flu, public health officials would probably lobby hard for their implementation. With a similar objective in mind, researchers at Boston University have identified specific state laws that, if implemented across the nation, might dramatically reduce the death toll from gun violence, which in many years kills about as many Americans as traffic accidents or the flu. After comparing states' trends in firearms-related deaths against those states' decisions to adopt any of 25 gun-control measures, the researchers singled out three initiatives that were associated with robust declines in suicides, homicides and fatal accidental shootings. The three measures linked to substantial drops in firearms-related deaths were: universal background checks for firearms sales, background checks on those buying ammunition, and a requirement that gun owners get their firearms microchipped or “fingerprinted” for identification purposes.
