A research team led by communications Professor Byron Reeves has been awarded an anticipated $6.27 million to develop an interactive software system that encourages people to be more energy efficient at home. The bulk of the funding comes from the U. S. Department of Energy.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation announced Oct. 22 that it intends to commit up to $100 million for the expansion of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. This will be the lead gift in the hospital’s campaign to add 104 new beds to its Palo Alto campus and expand access to state-of-the-art treatments for local children.

Stanford earthquake researcher
Jesse Lawrence wants to plug small seismic sensors into USB ports on computers across the campus. The sensors, which periodically send a report to the researcher’s computers, will provide valuable data on how buildings respond to earthquakes.
