University librarian Michael Keller recently told members of the Faculty Senate that electronic versions of dissertations will be available to the Stanford community through Socrates, the online library catalog and available to the world through Google.

In a Reunion Homecoming ceremony filled with emotion, friends and family dedicated a new Law School professorship to the late Luke Cole, an alumnus and noted environmental lawyer who died this summer at age 46. The Luke W. Cole Professorship in Environmental Law and Directorship of the Stanford Environmental Law Clinic is now filled by Deborah Sivas.

- TIAA-CREF deadlines: Remember that retirement plan changes require that anyone who wants to continue current contributions or to start new contributions to any TIAA-CREF investment has to sign a new contract and elect investment choices before Nov. 5. Otherwise, contributions after Nov. 2 go into a Vanguard target retirement fund based on your age. Visit the TIAA-CREF Stanford site.

Stanford Libraries has released a "next generation" library search engine, SearchWorks, to complement Socrates and make it easier to find the libraries' vast resources.
