Stanford maintains aid, raises undergraduate tuition 3.5%

Mindful of economic circumstances, the Stanford Board of Trustees has approved modest tuition increases for 2010-11. The university will maintain its robust financial aid program.

The extensive changes, which go into effect in September, reflect the university's commitment to offering students quality healthcare at an affordable price and the difficulties of doing so in the current complex healthcare environment, says Ira Friedman, director of Vaden Health Center.

Waste audit paints a smelly picture of campus trash habits

The students enrolled in Green Buildings and Behavior spent a recent afternoon in the company of empty potato chip bags, moldy orange peels, soiled paper towels and used coffee cups. The purpose was to sort out recyclables and analyze the habits of a building's inhabitants.

Faculty Senate minutes for Feb. 4 [PDF]

At last Thursday's Faculty Senate meeting, Provost John Etchemendy announced the appointment of a task force to review undergraduate education; Richard Saller, dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, presented a report on the school; and a panel of faculty, staff and students talked about the Honor Code.   • Report of the President: Academic Council professoriate appointments, promotions and reappointments were reviewed by the Advisory Board of the Academic Council on Nov. 17, 2009, Dec. 1, 2009 and Jan. 12, 2010 and were approved by the President. The full list is available online.
  • Correction: A story in the Feb. 9, issue of Stanford Report incorrectly stated Devin Banerjee's role at the Stanford Daily. Banerjee, winner of the 2010 Daniel Pearl Memorial Journalism Internship, is the former editor-in-chief of the Daily. Kamil Dada currently holds that post.
