Haitian hospital gets quake victims back on their feet

Haiti's Hopital Albert Schweitzer, one of the only functioning hospitals after the Jan. 12 quake, faces the challenge of helping thousands who lost limbs to bone-crushing injuries. Tracie White, a writer for the Medical School's Office of Communication & Public Affairs, recently returned from Haiti.

Students' designs help local residents with disabilities

Senior Reid Miller was part of a team that redesigned a vest that recharges implanted deep brain stimulators that help control shaking symptoms caused by Parkinson's disease and seizure disorders. The project was part of a class titled Perspectives in Assistive Technology.

University planning bond issue

Stanford has applied to the state of California for permission to issue $300 million in tax-exempt bonds to refinance some existing debt and to finance numerous capital projects. The campus expects to receive the authorization from the California Educational Facilities Authority by March 17, and then expects to issue the bonds within the month.
