Researchers, Dalai Lama and the neuroscience of altruism

Stanford's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, which was founded with a donation from the Dalai Lama, is at the forefront of a movement to bring psychology and neuroscience to the study of empathy, compassion and altruism. Neurosurgeon James Doty is the center's director.

Stent procedures no longer require an overnight stay

Stanford Hospital is at the forefront of performing angiograms, angioplasties and coronary-stent placements through the radial artery in the wrist instead of through the groin. Patients can sit up and walk almost immediately after the procedure. And most can even leave the hospital the same day.
