Finding fresh fruits and veggies
Are you looking for an easy way to add fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables to your diet? The Produce Stand is back for the winter quarter. Every Friday at Tresidder, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Stanford’s student-run produce stand is set up in front of Jamba Juice to sell fresh, organic produce direct from local growers.
Can’t fit the Produce Stand into your schedule? Fortunately, the Stanford community has many year-round options for fresh, local produce:
- California Avenue Farmers’ Market (Palo Alto): Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at California Avenue and El Camino Real. http://www.urbanvillageonline.com/markets/california.php
- Menlo Park Farmers’ Market: Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Crane and Chestnut streets. http://www.localharvest.org/farmers-markets/M3662
- Mountain View Farmers’ Market: Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 600 W. Evelyn Ave. (Caltrain station). http://www.cafarmersmkts.com/mtnview.html
- San Mateo Farmers’ Market: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the College of San Mateo. http://www.pcfma.com/markethome.php?market_id=15
Don’t have the time to make a trip to the market? Consider bringing the market to your home by signing up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) membership. You pay a subscription fee, and each week a box of various fruits and vegetables are delivered to you. It’s a fun way to try new, seasonal vegetables while supporting local farmers.
