Satz, Reich talk about Hope House Scholars Program while accepting award for public service

Rob Reich and Debra Satz, who founded the Hope House Scholars Program, were honored Wednesday, May 5, with the Miriam Aaron Roland Volunteer Service Prize.  The annual award, which was presented at a luncheon, is given by the Haas Center for Public Service to faculty who make significant contributions through public service. Hope House pairs faculty members with undergraduate teaching assistants who offer liberal arts courses to residents of a drug and alcohol treatment facility for women in Redwood City.

A luncheon audience at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto is entertained, charmed by the teaching experiences of Assoc. Prof. Ron Reich, political science, and Prof. Debra Satz, philosophy. In accepting the Miriam Aaron Roland Volunteer Service Prize, the two told of teaching in the real-world environment of Hope House where their students asked challenging questions.
