President John Hennessy will discuss Stanford's proposal to build a high-technology campus in New York City at this year's Academic Council meeting
Faculty, staff and students are invited to join President John Hennessy at the annual meeting of the Academic Council from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Jen Hsun Huang Engineering Center.
Hennessy will provide an overview of the state of the campus and conclude with a discussion about the New York City opportunity.
The tentative Stanford proposal, formally submitted last month in response to a New York City request for expressions of interest, outlines a high-technology campus that could be constructed in phases over 25 years to provide graduate degree-granting programs for students in engineering, computer science and business. The campus would be built in New York, with the intent that it would serve as a hub for innovation and economic growth.
Hennessy will be joined in conversation on stage by:
- Jim Plummer, dean of the School of Engineering.
- Jennifer Widom, chair of the Department of Computer Science, and the Fletcher Jones Professor in Computer Science.
- Robert Reidy, vice president for Land, Buildings and Real Estate
Stanford was one of 27 institutions that submitted expressions of interest to the New York City Economic Development Corporation. Cornell, Columbia, Purdue and the University of Chicago are among the other universities that submitted tentative proposals. New York City is expected to issue a formal request for proposals by this summer.
The meeting will be held in the NVIDIA Auditorium, located on the terrace level of the Jen-Hsun Huang Engineering Center. It will be followed by a reception in the outdoor patio.
