Stanford police update information about sexual assault at Escondido Village on Saturday
Stanford police have issued an update to a community alert notifying the campus about a sexual assault that occurred at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in an Escondido Village low rise on Comstock Circle.
Stanford police issued a community alert about the incident shortly after the assault was reported. That community alert said a man entered the apartment of a female graduate student who was sleeping at the time.
According to the update released on Wednesday, April 13, the suspect tried to hold the victim down as he assaulted her. She resisted the assailant's attack and he fled from the apartment. Shortly after the assault, a K-9 from the Palo Alto Police Department tracked a scent from the apartment to the area of El Camino Real and Churchill Street in Palo Alto, but the suspect was not located. The point of entry into the apartment may have been an unlocked door.
Police said the female victim did not suffer physical injuries.
The new community alert also said the victim has updated her description of the suspect. On Wednesday, police described him as Asian Indian, about 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall with a chubby build, wavy black hair and a rounded nose. He was last seen wearing jeans and a dark T-shirt. The victim remembers smelling a scent similar to apples at the time of the attack.
The Stanford Department of Public Safety increased the security presence around student residences, including Escondido Village and the surrounding areas.
