Slideshow: Stanford undergraduates enhance learning through research projects

At Stanford, educators believe that participating in research enhances learning. Undergraduates are encouraged to work on research projects, side-by-side with faculty members. By doing so, students are participants in producing new knowledge, rather than just passive recipients of it. The Office of Undergraduate Advising and Research annually offers about $4.5 million in grants to benefit some 900 projects involving undergraduate research. This summer, undergraduates worked on their own research or as research assistants or laboratory workers throughout campus and at the Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, Calif. Their experiences reveal the excitement of learning through the discovery of new knowledge. Stanford undergrad Kaitlyn Lo, an intern with University Communications, created this slideshow.
