Cardinal routs USC, moves up in rankings

With its 55-21 victory over the USC Trojans Saturday, the Cardinal has moved up in the NCAA football rankings. Stanford placed 14th among the AP's Top 25 and 17th in this week's USA Today poll.

Zap! The X-ray laser is born at SLAC

SLAC has converted its giant particle accelerator into the world's first X-ray laser. By a billion-fold the world's brightest X-ray source, the laser packs a trillion photons into pulses as short as a millionth of a billionth of a second.
