University issues proposed habitat conservation plan

The university is applying to create a habitat conservation plan for the campus and that proposal appeared last week in the Federal Register. Publication of the proposal is the first step toward approval of a plan officials believe will lead to better protection of threatened species on campus.

Extension of charter for East Palo Alto schools sought

The Ravenswood School District board last week denied a five-year renewal of the Stanford New Schools Charter, but left open the possibility of extending the charter for a shorter period. School of Education Dean Deborah Stipek welcomed the opportunity to continue operating the schools.

From robots that help perform delicate medical procedures to NASA's rovers, the latest high-tech machines were in the spotlight last week at Stanford's Robot Block Party. The event, sponsored by the Stanford Program in Law, Science and Technology, was part of National Robotics Week.
