School of Medicine researchers, led by Frank Longo, professor and chair in neurology and neurological sciences, have identified several small molecules that mimic a key but cumbersome brain protein. The discovery could open the door to new therapies for a variety of brain disorders.

"Contemporary History and the Future of Memory" is the title of a series of campus research projects and events involving a broad spectrum of disciplines. The common objective is to analyze the ways people have coped with adversity so future communities may benefit from their experiences.

Speakers at last Thursday's Faculty Senate meeting included Harry Elam and James Campbell, co-chairs of the Study of Undergraduate Education at Stanford; Pat Jones, vice provost for faculty development and diversity; Al Camarillo, special assistant to the provost for faculty diversity; and Shelley Correll, chair of Stanford's Panel on Faculty Equity and Quality of Life.
