After years of design, assembly and testing, a space camera developed by researchers from Stanford and Lockheed Martin roared into space Thursday morning, on a mission to reveal the sun's inner workings in unprecedented detail.

The California Supreme Court has ruled that Stanford can proceed with its plan to provide public trails approved by Santa Clara County in 2005. The unanimous ruling reverses an earlier decision by the state Court of Appeal. "This is a happy day," said Larry Horton, senior associate vice president for public affairs.

A software problem caused university web traffic to slow to a crawl Thursday morning. During the disruption, which began about 7:30 a.m., university web pages would not load. In some cases, email service was disrupted. The disruption affected web access for people on and off campus. Service was restored by noon. Read more.
