Helping marine species cope with climate change

Climate change is forcing marine plants and animals to move, adapt or die. Stanford biologist Steve Palumbi has found a coral species that is coping surprisingly well, and his analysis of the effectiveness of different size marine reserves suggests bigger isn't always better.

Memorial service, reception set for Jennifer Westerlind

A service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 1, in Memorial Church for Jennifer Westerlind, a longtime Stanford attorney who died Dec. 27. Following the service, a reception will be held from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. at the Koret Pavilion, 564 Lane A, at Campus Drive East, behind the Hillel-Ziff Center.

Malaysian women redefine gender roles in technology

In Malaysia, women make up at least half of the computer industry's employees and many hold mid- and upper-management positions. The country's burgeoning technology industry has brought dramatic changes to women's roles there, says Ulf Mellstrom, a faculty research fellow at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research.
