Stanford aid to Haitian hospital nears $350,000

As of Feb. 5, Stanford faculty, staff and students had contributed $182,870 to a challenge grant fund for Haiti’s Hopital Albert Schweitzer. The School of Medicine and several of its departments, along with Stanford Hospital & Clinics and university leaders offered matching funds of $167,000, bringing the total raised thus far to $349,870.

New Visitor Center opens its doors today

Starting today, the new Visitor Center, located on Galvez Street and Campus Drive East, will be the home base  – and departure point – for campus tours. The new center will celebrate its official opening this spring, when all of its new technologies have been installed.

Learning the hard way: Life lessons in the outback

Every day, the Martu people of Western Australia go to extraordinary lengths to find or hunt what they need to eat. How they do it offers lessons for the rest of us, say Stanford anthropologists Doug and Rebecca Bird. The couple led 15 undergrads on a research trip last August, an experience that is chronicled in the latest issue of Stanford magazine.
