King Institute to host conference on global peace

The Martin Luther King, Jr., Research and Education Institute will host an international conference on global peace, justice and sustainability this weekend. On Friday, TV and radio personality Tavis Smiley, left, will moderate a panel discussion that will be broadcast at a later date on his radio show.

Lively Arts: building community beyond performance

"For this coming season I can say that every single artist who is visiting campus is doing something … for the community beyond their performance," says Jenny Bilfield, artistic and executive director of Lively Arts. For instance, sound sculptor Trimpin, left, will co-teach a class in instrument building.

Service for graduate student Chris Chan set for Sunday

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Memorial Church for Chris Chan, a doctoral student in political science who died last week in a climbing accident in Yosemite National Park. An avid climber, Chan served as co-president of the Stanford Alpine Club during 2006-07 and 2008-09 academic years.
