The family of Boris Pasternak celebrates the English publication of the writer's letters – and its own survival – in honor of the 50th anniversary of the poet's death. The book, Boris Pasternak: Family Correspondence, 1921-1960, was published by the Hoover Institution Press.

Scientists first to create functional inner-ear cells

After years of lab work, researchers in the lab of Stefan Heller, professor of otolaryngology at the Medical School, report that they have found a way to develop mouse cells that look and act just like the animal’s inner-ear hair cells – the linchpin to our sense of hearing and balance – in a petri dish.

Electric cars, clean coal should go together, study shows

The United States will see a slow move toward electric car adoption in the next five to 10 years, while China will see only a small market for cars but big opportunities to manufacture and export batteries. An MBA student study doubts either nation will quickly adopt clean coal technology.

  • Habitat Conservation Plan meeting: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will hold a public comment meeting on Tuesday, May 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Oak Room West in Tresidder Memorial Union to discuss Stanford's proposed Habitat Conservation Plan.
