Stanford law clinic fights to fix California school funding

California schools have suffered under what many say is an outdated and broken funding system. A lawsuit filed Thursday by lawyers from the Stanford Law School's Mills Legal Clinic and other organizations attempts to force lawmakers to change how schools are funded.

In receiving the first-ever SIEPR Prize from the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research this week, economist Paul Volcker said the country is missing the sense of common purpose needed to solve urgent challenges, such as restoring America's fiscal position.

  • Kim Hess memorial is Saturday: A memorial service for Kim Hess, the manager of Latenite at Lakeside who died May 15, will be Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Stanford Avenue. A reception will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Roble Hall on Santa Teresa Street. A fund in Hess' memory has been established at the Stanford Federal Credit Union.
