The best way to sell technology to women? Don't simply color products pink. Martina Schraudner, a visiting scholar at the Clayman Institute, can list several pink flops, including the mobile phone intended to look like a compact that reminded women of a packet of birth control pills.

The realistic simulation, which took place last week in Mountain View, was complete with blank ammunition and screaming, bloodied actors. It was the latest in a series of exercises designed to prepare Stanford's police to be first responders in the event of a significant campus crisis.

Leo Holub, distinguished photographer and founder of Stanford's photography program, died at his home in San Francisco on April 27. He was 93. Holub founded the program in 1969 and taught from 1970 to 1980. He was a friend of noted photographers Ansel Adams and Imogen Cunningham.

The 39th annual Stanford Powwow begins today
in the Eucalyptus Grove.
Dances will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The powwow is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome.
