Need a study break to refresh? Maybe not, researchers say

Scientists have argued that when willpower is drained, the only way to restore it is by recharging our bodies with rest, food or some other physical distraction that takes you away from whatever is burning you out. Not so, say Stanford researchers in a paper published in Psychological Science.

'Ethics and War' series explores contradictions of conflict

A series of events under the banner of "Ethics and War," a program that has received wide interdisciplinary sponsorship across campus, begins tonight with a screening of director Christian Frei's 2001 documentary, War Photographer, in Annenberg Auditorium.

Presiding over his first Faculty Senate meeting as chair, David Spiegel told senators, “I should warn you, as a psychiatrist, that I have never before undertaken group therapy on such a massive scale." The meeting focused on undergraduate admission and financial aid.
