Google to test high-speed network in faculty housing area

Google will build an ultra-high-speed broadband network within the university's faculty/staff housing subdivision. Through this trial, Google plans to offer Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second – more than 100 times faster than what most people have access to today.

Bass University Fellows in Undergraduate Education named

Mark Applebaum, associate professor of music, is one of the newly minted Bass University Fellows in Undergraduate Education. The four new and five continuing fellows were announced at Thursday's Faculty Senate meeting. The meeting also included an update on intercollegiate athletics.

Researchers help kids get their hands on a Humboldt squid

Marine biologist William Gilly and his team will have eight jumbo Humboldt squid carcasses available for activities ranging from the scientific to the artistic this weekend at the Squids-4-Kids exhibit on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The outreach program sends frozen squids to science teachers.
