Eugene Carragee, editor-in-chief of The Spine Journal and professor of orthopedic surgery at Stanford, has spotlighted how researchers who received millions of dollars from the maker of a spinal fusion product did not report serious side-effects, such as male sterility, in their studies.

Richard Randell, a former Stanford professor and nationally known artist and sculptor, died of lung cancer at his home in Sonoma County on May 25. Randell, who was known for his large-scale contemporary sculptures, also worked on African-language video projects for students.
