Global warming could alter U.S. premium wine industry

The amount of high-value Northern California land suitable for growing premium wine grapes could be cut in half by 2040 because of global warming, researchers say. Noah Diffenbaugh, left, an assistant professor of environmental Earth system science, is co-author of two studies on the topic.

Development economist Gerald M. Meier dies at 88

Gerald M. Meier, professor emeritus at the Graduate School of Business, died at his Stanford home last week. Meier's 1964 text, Leading Issues in Economic Development, now in its eighth edition, has been translated into seven languages and is taught in classrooms around the globe.
