The ‘indentured mobility’ of migrant Filipina hostesses

Sociologist Rhacel Parreñas, left, a recent fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, conducted extensive research on Filipina hostesses in Japan’s nightlife industry. She even went undercover for several months.

  • Crime Alert: On Saturday, Oct. 1, a woman reported to police that she had been robbed at noon on Palm Drive near El Camino Real. The suspect bumped her while she was jogging and forcibly stole her keys and cell phone.
