New study points to potential treatment for stroke

Stanford neuroscientists, including Marion Buckwalter, have shown that a compound mimicking a key activity of a brain-based protein is capable of increasing the generation of new nerve cells in mice that have had strokes.

World's largest digital camera on track at SLAC

SLAC's 3.2 billion-pixel digital camera is closer to reality. The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope camera will capture the widest and deepest view of the night sky. It's received "Critical Decision 1" approval by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Stanford vascular surgeon Weesam Alkhatib dies at 34

Weesam Kassim Alkhatib, a clinical instructor in surgery at the School of Medicine, died April 14 of a rare form of cancer. He was 34. Alkhatib was appointed a clinical instructor in 2010 after doing a surgery fellowship at Stanford.
