Rendering of the Bing Concert Hall

First performers announced for concert hall opening

The Bing Concert Hall will open on Jan. 11, 2013 with a week-long celebration of performances. The San Francisco Symphony, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Los Lobos and the St. Lawrence String Quartet will be among the first acts.

Monks from the Shaolin Temple USA teach a weekly fitness class for members of the Stanford community that incorporates Chinese martial arts and Buddhist teaching. The class is sponsored by the university's Health Improvement Program.

Study: Promiscuous yeast hook up in wine-making vats

Humans aren’t the only species that like to get busy with a glass of bubbly. Turns out the common baker’s yeast has indulged in a frenzy of amorous frolicking in the fermentation vats of winemakers for hundreds, possibly thousands, of years.

 

Service Saturday for longtime Med School IT leader

Gerry Weitz, director emeritus of IRT Administrative Systems for the School of Medicine, died of a stroke Feb. 8. He was 67. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3, at 2 p.m. in the Millie and Paul Berg Hall in the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge.
